This year 29 students were selected from across the Oakland Unified School District to receive awards for their community-focused research and action projects that exemplified EDDA goals and community readiness. Students, families, teachers, and OUSD administrators gathered together on May 19, 2016 at the Mills College Graduate School of Business. California Assemblymember Tony Thurmond presented the awards.

The 2015 Celebrating Community Ready Seniors celebration, facilitated by OUSD Civic Engagement Coordinator Young Whan Choi, included remarks by Karen Monroe, Superintendent of Alameda Schools and Mills College Provost Dave Donahue. Awards were given to 24 community ready seniors, and a panel of five special-award winners presented and discussed their community-focused senior projects.
